「Good Night ,and Good Luck」は、最近2度も見たDVDのタイトル。監督・脚本・出演ともにジョージ・クルーニー。主演は、デヴィド・ストライザー。2005年のアメリカ作品で、映画レビューサイト Rotten Tomatoes（英語）でも９４％の高い評価を得ている。
内容は、いわゆるマッカーシズム＝赤狩りが吹き荒れる1950年代のアメリカが舞台。「放送の良心」として愛された、実在のニュースキャスター エド・マローとその番組スタッフが真の報道のあり方について追求した、事実に基づいた社会派ストーリー。
最近の日本のTV事情・社会風潮など色々と考えさせられる点も多く、とても興味深い作品だと思う。
内容のシビアさに比べて、映像がモノクロでジャズがふんだんに取り入れられているので、とてもスタイリュシュでカッコイイ！のもこの作品の魅力。
これからも何度も観たい作品のひとつ。
I watched “Good Night and Good Luck” twice recently. George Clooney co-stars in it, and he co-wrote it and directed it too. It stars David Strathairn and got 94% nice ones at Rotten Tomatoes.
It’s set in the America in the 50s, during the witchhunt days of McCarthyism. It’s the true story of newscaster Ed Morrow, the well-loved conscience of the broadcast news business, and his production team as they struggle to protect the principles of journalism.
It’s a fascinating film that gives cause to reflect on Japan’s media and social trends. The theme is heavy, but the film’s black and white cinematography and jazz soundtrack make for a stylish treat.
This is one of those movies I want to see over and over again.
